About Splarf
Hi there! I'm Tim Lucas, the creator behind Splarf.
Who I Am
Born and raised in the wide-open spaces of Texas, I'm a maker, developer, and technical enthusiast with a passion for practical solutions to complex problems. After spending time in California's tech ecosystem, I returned to my Texan roots during the pandemic — trading expensive rent for the comfort of my own workshop where I can tinker, code, and build to my heart's content.
My technical journey spans from enterprise CI/CD pipelines to DIY solar power systems. I believe in self-sufficiency, sharing knowledge, and the satisfaction that comes from building things with your own hands — whether that's code or hardware.
What Splarf Is About
Splarf started as a personal playground for my technical writing and projects. The name? It's deliberately meaningless — a placeholder that stuck around because it made me smile.
This site serves as my digital workshop where I document:
- Technical Deep Dives - From Jenkins CI/CD to web development techniques
- Maker Projects - Solar power setups, 3D printing, and DIY electronics
- Web Development - Explorations in frontend technologies and deployment strategies
- Practical Tutorials - Step-by-step guides to help others build and create
The site's aesthetic reflects my current interests in maker culture, with subtle nods to 3D printing layer lines and the organized, methodical approach of technical creation.
My Technical Philosophy
I approach technology with a few core principles:
- Deep Understanding - I believe in knowing how things work underneath the abstractions
- Practical Application - Technology should solve real problems and improve lives
- Self-Reliance - The ability to build, repair, and maintain your own systems is empowering
- Knowledge Sharing - Documenting and teaching helps both the community and solidifies my own understanding
Connect With Me
I'm always interested in connecting with fellow makers, developers, and tinkerers. Feel free to reach out if you have questions about any of my articles or projects, want to collaborate, or just want to chat about technology.
The best way to contact me is via email at [email protected].
While I value my privacy and the quiet focus of my home workshop, I'm part of several maker and developer communities where ideas and projects flourish through collaboration.
What's Next
Splarf continues to evolve as my interests and projects do. Upcoming articles will explore emerging technologies, new maker projects, and practical solutions to technical challenges.
Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you find something useful, interesting, or inspiring during your visit.
